Phase 1
Phase 1 of the Aviary’s master plan is nearly complete. Highlights include:
- Destination Argentina, showcasing the flora and fauna of Argentina (completed 2005)
- Bald and golden eagle exhibits with new water features and native plants (completed 2008)
- Sandhill crane exhibit with improved visitor access and wetland habitat (completed 2007)
- Wildlife Encounter Zone where visitors can have close-up interactions with birds (completed 2008)
- Green renovation of the Chase Mill, Utah’s oldest standing industrial building (completed 2006)
- Additional restrooms with power from solar panels (completed 2006)
- Renovating the Flight Cage to enable visitors to enter the structure and view flying birds at close range (currently under construction)
Phase 2
Funds from the Proposition 1 bond will be use to fund Phase 2 of the Aviary’s Master Plan. Key components of Phase 2 will include:
- Stunning new indoor rain forest exhibits focusing on the birds and habitat of Mexico and Panama
- Total renovation of the deteriorating Wilson Pavilion, enabling visitors to have face-to-face encounters with the birds of South America
- New bird show and education facilities, including a refurbished amphitheater and multi-purpose education space
- Renovated entry plaza with new guest amenities including restrooms
- Critical infrastructure upgrades
